The fallout from the burning of Qurans at a U.S. base in Afghanistan has claimed the lives of two U.S. troops. An Afghan official tells CBS that an Afghan soldier shot the soldiers out of anger over the burning of the holy books. Protests over the incident have raged for three days in Afghanistan. Afghan police fired shots to disperse a mob of protesters who tried to break into a U.S. military base in eastern Afghanistan.

GODDAMMIT

I can’t help but wonder if the party moderates are just letting this parade of mental patients and unelectable criminals simply happen, so that they can detoxify the party after the inevitable firestorm of failure.

Iran promises to return US drone - as a pink toy

It may not have been quite what Barack Obama meant when he called on Iran to return a US drone that crashed in the Islamic Republic.
Rather than giving back the multi-million dollar piece of spyware, which has been gleefully paraded for the world’s cameras, an Iranian toy maker has promised to send the White House a pink plastic toy replica of the downed drone.
The Ayeh Art group has been doing a brisk trade in models of the RQ-170, producing around 2,000 a day, and in an inspired moment of self-publicity has promised to reserve one for President Obama.
“He said he wanted it back, and we will send him one,” said Reza Kioumars, the company’s head of cultural production. (source)

This did make me giggle a little.

Wake the fuck up America. We need election reform, NOW!

This man speaks the truth. It doesn’t matter what side of politics you are on because neither of the parties represents you best. Both parties have been bought by companies and the rich.

We need political parties that listen to their members, not members that listen to their political parties.

We need to end corporate spending on elections.

We need the “alternative vote” voting system so that 3rd parties have a chance to get elected.

Much indeed to be regretted, party disputes are now carried to such a length, and truth is so enveloped in mist and false representation, that it is extremely difficult to know through what channel to seek it. This difficulty to one, who is of no party, and whose sole wish is to pursue with undeviating steps a path which would lead this country to respectability, wealth, and happiness, is exceedingly to be lamented. But such, for wise purposes, it is presumed, is the turbulence of human passions in party disputes, when victory more than truth is the palm contended for.

You’ve heard of a one-horse town, but what about a one-person town? Scattered throughout the U.S. are places with populations you can count on one hand — and sometimes one finger.12 U.S. places where your visit could double the population

Today, Eiler is not only Monowi’s sole resident, but she’s also the mayor, librarian and bartender. She manages the town’s budget (about $500 a year) at “city hall,” an old desk inside the town’s only business, the Monowi Tavern, and once a year she raises “taxes” to keep the village’s four streetlights on. Nearby towns supply most of the tavern’s customers who say the $2.50 hamburgers and $2 beers are the best in town. (Eiler granted her own liquor license.) Behind the tavern sits a 5,000-book library that Eiler constructed in 2005 in memory of her husband. The library was her late husband’s dream, and it’s become a hit with residents of surrounding towns.

…Thats six shades of awesome life, right there.
